Welcome to The Tasteful Baker! I'm Vickie and I live in Birmingham, Alabama.
Since I was a child, the nature of creativity has always ruled me. I have been a nurse for many years, but the need to create has continually resurfaced throughout my life, regardless of what else I was doing.
I started my first website, Uncommon Artistic Endeavors in 2006, and it received more hits than I ever expected. About 350 posts later, I decided to put it on hold and attend culinary school at Jefferson State Culinary and Hospitality Institute.
It's a wonderful school, and I was an extremely grateful and obsessive student. I graduated Summa Cum Laude in December of 2015 with a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. Culinary school was an amazing and unforgettable experience, and it definitely helped to settle me into where I needed to be.
Inspring Cooks and Bakers At Any Skill Level
My purpose here is to be inspiring to cooks and bakers at any skill level. I will only post recipes that I have tested thoroughly and think are fabulous. As I did in my previous blog, my recipes and other creative endeavors will be presented with simple, step-by-step instructions and chronicled with lots of photos.
I plan to blend my years of cooking and baking experience with the treasured knowledge I gained from my instructors in culinary school. Along with recipes, I will share my DIY projects, and books, and kitchen tools that I love. I plan to eventually sell my custom cakes and other baked goods, and some of my previous work can be found here in the Bakeshop section.
Besides baking and cooking, I love spending time with my husband and family. My nursing job is at a local hospital where I take care of moms and their new babies. I do a lot of reading, mostly nonfiction, and I am always in the middle of several books at any given time. I love to sing, and I've sung in choirs and ensembles since I was 5 years old. I currently sing at my church and with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
